Real Bride Spotlight: Haley

It’s always gratifying to help a bride choose the dress she’ll wear on the happiest day of her life, but it’s particularly exciting when we dress not only the bride, but her mother and bridesmaids, too! And that’s exactly what we had the pleasure of doing with bride Haley for her picture-perfect Spring wedding at Naylor Hall in Roswell.

What was your favorite part about planning your wedding day?
My favorite part about the wedding planning was adding all the elements of surprise for the wedding day. For example, no one but my mom saw my dress. I deleted all pictures from my phone and camera. Everyone constantly asked trying to get some sort of idea, but both my mom and I kept our lips sealed. There were other surprises that day, including our  first dance song, our party favors, and my “bedazzled” shoes. We had planned for a whole year for our special day, so it was nice on that day to still have little surprises to look forward to!

How did you end up choosing your wedding gown, bridesmaids dresses and Mother of the Bride dress?
I chose my bridesmaid dresses and my mom’s dress from Wedding Angels Bridal Boutique because it was the obvious choice! Wedding Angels was the first and only place I went to look for my dress. Everyone at the store treated you like it was “your” day and you were the only one in the store. They have hundreds of girls come through that store, yet each time you walk in there, they treat you like a V.I.P. My experience of getting my dress made it an easy decision that I was going to get everything at one store. Wedding Angels has a great selection of bridesmaid dresses at every price point. I wanted to make sure my bridesmaids did not pay too much for their dresses, so I let them choose out of four choices. Allowing them a choice made me feel comfortable that each of the girls was okay with the dress and the price. As for my mom’s dress, the store was always having a trunk show so my mom  went a couple of times to the store to decide on her dress. Karin was wonderful by encouraging my mom to choose a dress that was a little out of her element but looked wonderful on her. Wedding Angels was even kind enough to mail swatches of the bridesmaid dress and my mom’s dress which was very useful for flowers, shoes, and jewelry.

Any advice for future brides?
It’s simple – Get everything from Wedding Angels. It is so nice to have everything in one place! I purchased my dress, veil, my jewelry, bridesmaid dresses, and mother of bride dress at Wedding Angels. The store will always have a special place in our wedding story. They aren’t just another wedding store in the Atlanta area, because  each of the ladies enjoy coming to work to help brides pick the most important dress of their lives. They don’t sell dresses, they help you choose a dress. Not once did I ever feel like I was getting “sold” a dress. It was my decision to get everything at the store and it was the best decision made. Wedding planning is stressful, but having all your dresses purchased at one store will be one less stress.

Holiday Dress

Married Life

Married Life…

Okay, so maybe this is just me wishing to indulge my secret desire to be a Food Network star, or guest blogger for Martha Stuart’s empire. So be it. The fact is, right now I’m kind of embracing my inner domestic goddess because I’m lucky enough to be home on maternity leave. Obviously I’m usually pretty focused on weddings since that’s what we do, but I thought it might be kind of fun to have a little series from time-to-time about things that work in married life too! Nothing too mushy or advice-laden. Just fun stuff around the house that works for me. I always have the a fantasy around the holidays that I can conquer all things in the area of crafting and cooking…NOT TRUE! Year after year, inspired by my favorite magazines and all those pinterest overachievers, I set about the task of proving my wifely fabulousness. I usually just end up with a mess of yarn, embossing stamps, paint, glitter, and no finished products that anyone would believe weren’t created by my three year old. But two things I’ve tried lately have actually had a decent outcome. So, I thought I’d share!

First: What to do with the Thanksgiving left-overs that just won’t quit?! Wrap ‘em all in pie dough, pour yourself a nice glass of wine, and enjoy! You get credit for “cooking” when it was really just assembly! Here I trimmed all the left over meat off of the turkey and layered it inside of the piecrust with butternut squash, cranberry sauce, mashed potatoes and gravy.

wedding angels thanks

ALL were left over from our Thanksgiving feast! Food scientists- no worries. I did this last week, I’m just now getting around to writing about it. Anyway, it’s useful for next year and if you have more holiday grub that uses similar flavor profiles, give it a try!

Second Stroke of Brilliance- (Wow, two in one week! If someone hadn’t just won Powerball I’d run out and buy a lotto ticket for myself!) What to do with your new hubby’s (ugly) childhood stocking?!? So you don’t want to hang it on the mantle in your new love nest. Completely understandable. I’d describe my Christmas Decorating Style as: everything-must-coordinate-thus-if-its-not-monogrammed-from-potterybarn-get-it-out-of-my-house. So I have to admit my horror when my father-in-law presented me with my husband’s childhood stocking. It’s not the stocking itself that is the problem. It was handmade and well loved- I really do appreciate that (don’t judge! I’m not a TOTAL b*tch). It just doesn’t match anything else and I can’t recreate one for the other 4 members of our family to co-ordinate with it. That’s enough to make me break out in hives!

So, two candy-type thingys from the $1 bin at Michaels, one live wreath, and some floral wire later…ta da! It’s a stocking wreath we can all be proud of! And my mantle still might look like the Southern Living photo I have in my head…if you believe in miracles…and if I ever get around to putting the garland up and actually decorating the mantle…whatever.

stocking wreath

You catch my drift. The wreath is cool. End of story. Happy Decorating!
